Learn about various eye and vision conditions:

Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Diabetic Retinopathy
Dry Eye
Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
Macular Degeneration
Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Ocular Hypertension
Spots and Floaters
Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)

Unfortunately, most serious diseases of the eye have no noticeable symptoms.

For example, glaucoma is a rise in pressure in the eye that can cause permanent blindness if left untreated.  However, it doesn't hurt or cause any noticeable vision changes until it is too late.

This is why we always dilate the pupil to check for glaucoma and other diseases of the eye. Without dilation, we typically can see less than half of the eye because the iris (colored part of eye) blocks our view.  So we move it out of the way with dilating drops.

At Associates in Eye Care, we have a great deal of experience treating glaucoma and other eye diseases. In addition, we are one of only a few practices that treat nursing home bound patients and their complex medical conditions.
